Frequently Asked Questions

The word 'Doula' has come to mean “One who mothers the mother.”

A postpartum doula is someone who provides a new mother and her family physical and emotional support after she's given birth.
My aim for each visit is to lighten the load of the mother (in whatever way that may look) and ensure she feels nurtured, nourished and rested.

Each family is unique, as is each mother-baby dyad. Therefore, one postpartum visit can look very different to the next depending on the challenges you are facing on that particular day.

I like to meet potential clients face-to-face before they make any financial commitment to working with me. This allows me to get to know you and your family, and identify the areas of support that are priorities for your care.

A postpartum visit might look like:

  • Caring for your baby so you can get some sleep, have a shower or move your body.
  • Assisting and guiding you with newborn care.
  • Guidance with normal newborn behaviour.
  • Breastfeeding support.
  • Biologically normal sleep and settling.
  • Sibling care.
  • General household tidying.
  • Preparing basic nutritious food for you during my visit.

Whether you book a 3 or 6 visit package, the visits are yours to use as you wish.

Want me to visit you 2 or 3 times in the first week after having your baby? I can do that.

Want to do weekly or fortnightly visits? I can do that too.

How you use your visits is totally up to you, and what works best for your family.

A Meal Train is a group of people coordinating with one another to cook a meal for a family that has recently welcomed a new baby into their lives. It is a thoughtful and practical way of contributing positively to someones postpartum experience.

Life with a newborn is busy and tiring. the mother is often so busy tending to the needs of her baby and other children that she forgets to feed herself.

The idea is that those involved in the meal train, cook an evening meal for the family that is also large enough to provide the mother with leftovers that she can easily grab, heat and eat the next day.

*The length of time your Meal Train is supplied for is determined by how many loved ones get involved in this offering.

**Meal Trains can also be a thoughtful way of supporting anyone through a tough time ie: difficult pregnancy, illness or loss and grief.

As a doula, I do not offer medical advice. However, I can provide you with information so you can make an informed choice for yourself and your family. I will always encourage you to seek medical advice from your healthcare practitioner.

I service the City of Greater Bendigo, Mount Alexander Shire and Macedon Ranges Shire.

Absolutely! If you feel I am the right person to support you through your postpartum period, I would love to work with you. If you live outside a 40km radius of Sutton Grange, an additional travel fee may apply. Get in touch with me to discuss this further.

More and more Australian families are turning to doulas for extra support during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Doulas come without judgement and bias. They are your advocate and ally. They will hold space for you when you are at your most vulnerable.

While our western society hasn't yet caught up, there are many cultures throughout the globe that nurture and honour a woman's transformation in becoming a mother.

I sure do!

I am very aware that Central Victoria has a diverse range of industries of which its residents are employed.

Central Victoria is surrounded by farming land, we have mining and aviation industries and a large healthcare workforce. Employees and business owners of these industries may live remotely, work long hours, or Fly-In Fly-Out.

With all this in mind, I realise that a 4 hour in-home visit may not suit your needs.

  • If you live remotely and want support for more or less than 4 hours.
  • If your partner works FIFO and you need an extra support.
  • If your usual support network live interstate or overseas.
  • Or maybe you'd like to book postpartum support for a few months up-front.

Please get in touch. I'd love to see what we can conjure up together.
